Faculty of Cathedral Prep
  Fr. Fred Marano

Father Marano, an alumnus of Cathedral Prep ('82), is the Rector and Principal of the school. He holds a BA in English from Cathedral College, Douglaston, NY and an MA in Theology from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, Huntington, NY. Ordained in 1991, Fr. Marano has served as a parochial vicar at Ss. Simon and Jude, Brooklyn and St. Camillus, Rockaway Park. He was parish Administrator at St. Rose of Lima Church in the Parkville section of Brooklyn. From 1995-2002, Fr. Marano was the Spiritual Director and Freshmen Theology teacher at Cathedral Preparatory Seminary. Currently, he teaches Freshmen Theology and Senior Fine Arts (Film Appreciation). In addition to his service at Cathedral Prep, Fr. Marano is the Spiritual Director of Cathedral Seminary Residence in Douglaston.

  Fr. John Cush

Fr. John Cush, a Cathedral Prep Alumnus ('90), was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn in 1998, following studies at Cathedral Seminary Residence, Douglaston, NY and the North American College, Vatican City State. He holds a BA in English and Philosophy from St. John's University, Jamaica, NY and an STB and STL from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. At Cathedral Prep, Fr. Cush is the Spiritual Director and teaches Theology (Scripture and Morality), Humanities, Fine Arts and English. He is also Director of Recruitment, the Middle States Reaccreditation Process and the Fr. Troike Leadership Program.

  Mr. Anthony DeNardo

Mr. Anthony De Nardo is a math and science teacher at Cathedral for nine years. He had taught in a Brooklyn junior high setting for two years prior to that. He has a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education and is certified in history. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in School Building Leadership at St. John’s University. Among his tasks at Cathedral, he is the Director of Student Activities and moderates several after school clubs. In his spare time he enjoys historical trivia, watching baseball, football, and soccer, and playing guitar.

  Mr. Richie Diaz

Mr. Diaz, a graduate of Cathedral, has been teaching at the school since 2001. He earned a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from Hofstra University in 2000 with a major in American/British Literature and a minor in Secondary Education. Mr. Diaz continued in his studies to graduate from Queens College with his Master's of Arts Degree, majoring in English Education and also attaining Permanent New York State Teaching Certification in English. Prior to Cathedral, he taught at Herricks Middle and High schools in Long Island.

At Cathedral, Mr. Diaz teaches all levels of Sophomore, Junior, and Senior English courses and the Drama IV elective. In the past, he has taught other electives such as Shakespeare, Creative Writing, and Music History.

Currently, Mr. Diaz serves as the Assistant Dean and also as the English Department Chairperson. In addition, he serves as the Head Coach of the Crusaders Cross Country, Indoor, and Outdoor Track Teams and moderator of the school Literary Journal. Mr. Diaz is currently pursuing a second Master’s Degree in School Leadership and New York State School Building Leadership Certification through St. John’s University.

  Mr. Joseph Dibs

Mr. Dibs, an alumnus of Cathedral, holds a BA in History, with minors in Philosophy, Classics and Theology from St. John's University, NY, as well as an MA in Modern European History from St. John's University. He teaches Latin, English and Philosophy-Psychology. He has also taught Theology at Cathedral Prep. At Cathedral, Mr. Dibs is the Choir Director, Grant Facilitator and assists in the Recruitment Program. He is also the director of the Apostolic Service Program at Cathedral Prep. Teaching at Cathedral since 2002, Mr. Dibs is a certified youth minister and is active as an instructor in adult faith formation programs.

  Mr. Jim Dilg

Jim Dilg is a graduate of Manhattan Prep High Schol and received his B.S. from Manhattan College and his M.A. from New York University. He started teaching at Cathedral Prep in 1964 (part-time) and will be completing his 39th year at the Prep in June. Jim is presently the Physical Education Chairman, but has also taught Health and Environmental Biology. He has served as Athletic Director and coached the Varsity Basketball, Baseball and Track teams. Currently, he serves as Alumni Director, intramural director, and coordinates the Booster Club Phoneathon. He has been the Treasurer of the Brooklyn-Queens Catholic High School Athletic Association for over 25 years. Jim and his wife Kathleen reside in Hicksville, and they have three children: Maureen, Matthew and Patricia. The Dilges have been involved in church and parish ministries over the years. Jim enjoys gardening and rooting for his Jaspers, and, of course, the Crusaders.

  Mr. John O'Brien

Mr. John O'Brien graduated from Cathedral in 2001 and then went on to St. John's University where he earned a B.S. in Adolescent Education/ Social Studies. He then continued his studies at St. John's and received an M.S. in Literacy Education. Currently, he is pursuing his M.S. in Educational Administration and a certificate in School Building Leadership from St. John's. At Cathedral, Mr. O'Brien teaches freshmen and sophomore global studies as well as freshmen English. He is also an assistant coach for the varsity baseball team.

  Mr. Daniel O'Keefe

Mr. O'Keefe has been at Cathedral Preparatory Seminary since 1992. He graduated from Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception in 1987 where he earned a BA in English Literature. He earned a Master's Degree in Religious Studies from St. Joseph's Seminary in 1993. Dan has worked in several schools in New York State, from the South Bronx to upstate. He has taught French, English, Religion and History at the Prep. He has previously served as Prefect of Students from1994 until 1999. Currently, Dan is Vice Principal and Academic Dean at Cathedral.

  Mr. Rolando Lopez

Entering his third year as the Physical Education teacher and JV Baseball coach. Rolando is also in charge of our intramurals program here for our students. Rolando has a BS in Mass Comm and currently attending ST. Johns University to obtain his Masters. Before teaching he worked at Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston as a Food Director. Rolando has played college basketball on the Division 2 level as a starter for three years.

  Ms. Diana Raschella

Diana Raschella, a memeber of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, has been on the faculty of Cathedral Prep since 1999. A graduate of St. John's University, Ms. Raschella hold graduate credits from the University of Puerto Rico and the College of Mount St. Vincent. At Cathedral Prep, she teaches Spanish and Study Skills. Ms. Raschella has taught Health, Fine Arts and English at Cathedral and TACHS preparation in the Fr. Edward W. Troike Leadership Program. She moderates the Modern Language Club and assists as track coach.

  Ms. Marie Rosa

Mrs. Rosa has been a teacher of Modern and Classical Languages in secondary schools since 1960. She has a BA in French from Hunter College and has earned 30+ MasterÕs credits in French and Education. She has been elected to WhoÕs Who in American Teachers. Mrs. Rosa taught in Newtown High School for the first seven years of her career. Then she spent several years on maternity leave raising her three children. She returned to teaching on a part-time basis at MaryÕs Nativity School in Flushing where she implemented a French program beginning in Grade 5 and eventually culminating in Grade 8. Mrs. Rosa has been teaching Latin, Spanish and French at Cathedral Preparatory Seminary since September, 1992. It has been here personal goal throughout her teaching career to make the study of a foreign language a successful as well as an enjoyable experience for her students.

  Mr. Joseph Russo

Mr. Joseph F. Russo, a graduate of Cathedral Prep and St. John's University, has been teaching at his alma mater since the fall of 1990. Before that he taught at St. Anthony-St. Alphonsus Elementary School in Brooklyn. Presently, Joe is Prefect of Students and the History Department Chairperson. He is also the coach of Cathedral's successful Speech and Debate team. He teaches AP courses in Global Studies, U.S. History and U.S. Government. Joe is an avid MEt, Giant and Islander fan. In addition, he is an enthusiastic supporter of America's space program.

  Mr. William Scharen

Mr. Scharen knows the importance of receiving a Catholic education. He and his 4 brothers and sisters attended St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington (Long Island, NY) over the course of 18 consecutive years. After graduation, he received his associate's degree from Nassau Community College and then went on to Molloy College to receive his bachelor's degree. In both high school and college, he played lacrosse. He is looking forward to introducing the sport to the students at Cathedral Prep as an intramural. Mr. Scharen is currently pursuing his master's degree.
